The information exists — scattered across Reddit threads, manufacturer spec sheets, contractor blogs, and forum debates. But it's contradictory, biased toward whoever is writing it, and almost never written for the homeowner trying to make a decision.

The Building Reference is our attempt to fix that. Every comparison on this site covers what each system actually is, where each one wins, what the honest tradeoffs are, and — most importantly — what specific questions to ask your contractor before committing.

The Building Reference is built by the team at Parrish Construction Inc. — a licensed residential remodeling contractor based in Carmichael, California, serving the Greater Sacramento area.

We specialize in kitchen and bathroom remodeling and finish carpentry. We install the systems we write about. We've seen what fails behind tile after 10 years, and what holds up. That experience is the basis for every comparison on this site.
